How Children and Young People Learn
To be a disciple is to be a learner. In this session we will understand how children and young people learn by exploring three key elements: relationships, curiosity and differences in learning styles. The parable of the sower and the soils makes it clear just how important understanding is. As leaders and parents, we have opportunities to help children and young people understand by the way we teach them. We help prepare the soil for the Word of God to grow and bear fruit.
Learning Through Games
Experiential learning works on a simple principle. Those things we discover for ourselves will be much more deeply learned and able to be used.
Experiential learning follows a process. This process was first formalized by a man called David Kolb. There are four different phases that make up the experiential learning process:
Experience it
Reflect on it
Find the message or principle
Apply it to our lives
It is a powerful tool for learning, especially in the context of applying the Bible to our lives.
Teachable Moments
A teachable moment is a time when someone is ready and receptive to learn something. It can happen anywhere at anytime! Leaders and parents can be ready to respond well. Read 1 Peter 3:15
